writes: I'm currently going through divorce. My ex has been violent through out the marriage. I've been seperated since May 04. He's going to contest the divorce. How long its going to drag? any ideas? Also I'd like to know when the financial settlement will be sorted as the house is in both of our names but he's living there. I'm so stressed and worried. They are right where they said it depends on where you live. I live in the US. You have to be seperated for 6 months, then the divorce can be filed. Good luck to you. Go speak to an attorney. You can always just call one and ask these questions without actually hiring them as of yet.

I don't have an answer for you because this depends totally on where you live. Different countries, even different regions of the same country, have different laws pertaining to divorce.
I would suggest that you need to speak to a legal professional and ask them what you can expect. In Australia there's a local-charge phone number for "Law Access". Here, they give general advice over the phone and can refer callers to solicitors as necessary. There may be something similar in your community, so check your phone book.
