 If i'm going to notice someone, i'm going to look for someone who shows interest in me.
Just start being a little more flirty. Make eye contact, give him a bashful wink or something. Just give him a sign, and if he's interested he'll flirt back or tell you he likes you.
On the other side, you could always make the first move. Ask him to go somewhere outside of your group of friends, the park, a beach if you live near one, just anywhere public that you can be with him. More than likely, he'll get teh idea and either reciprocate and tell you he likes you, or again, on the other side you could find the right moment and tell him what you want from him.
Whatever you do, just go for it. If you want him as more than a friend and you never go for it, you'll never know what could be. And dont over-hype the situation. You don't need to be more nervous than your going to be. Just relax, and have fun. He'll like you for that. Good Luck!!!
