Keep in mind that, if you get to where you've decided that you want to go ahead with anal sex (I won't pass judgement either way other than to echo the sentiments below), that you should be entitled put something up his bottom first.
Now, I'm not saying he'd like that, nor that he would go along. I just think, especially for guys who have had vaginal sex, it is so so easy to underestimate how sensitive anal sex is and how very very excruciatingly slowly you have to go. And the one way to learn better is to have something pushed up your bottom too quickly.
The problem is that guys have seen porn where people are banging away at anal sex, or have heard stories of the same. And doing anything remotely that is like doing Olympic gymnastics ... it takes a LOT of careful practice and stretching. You've got to work your way caaarrreefully to it.
Hand him a banana with a condom on it, and say once he shows you he can put that up his bottom without hurting himself, you'll trust him to put his willy up your bottom and listen to you when you tell him to stop or slow down. And watch as it takes him 5 times longer than he expected.
That's just a thought, but more than almost anything short of S&M, anal sex is all about trust. Make sure you really, really trust him. And make sure he understands trust is at stake.
