I recently went to the doctor because I think I have a bladder infection, I have been given some antibiotics and I had to give a urine sample. I fear there is something really worng with me because you get loads of stories in the paper in magazines etc about people's health stories and I fear this may happen to me bacause you read about it a lot. Am I worrying over nothing?

hey Im a nurse , and if the doctor diagnosed you as having a bladder infection, it is highly likely that is all it is.

You will find that out because very soon after taking the antibiotics the pain, or discomfort will subside.

So no need to worry, this is an extremely common problem a lot of women have at someyime in their lives

A female reader, roxker United Kingdom +, writes (20 February 2008):

Did your GP give your infection a name? Sounds to me like it's probably cystitis - which is an annoying but very common infection for women/girls usually caused by e coli bacteria (which live happliy in your back passage) somehow transferring to your uretha at the front. this causes an increased desire to pee, (even when there is next to nothing in your bladder) and a burning stinging sensation when you do go!It is not infectious or serious but can be quite uncomfortable - however it quickly clears up with antibiotics and can be alleviated by drinking lots and lots of water. to avoid future recurrences always wipe yourself from front to back-to avoid transferring bacteria; do not allow yourself to get dehydrated especially in hot weather. there are also simple over the counter remedies you can buy (such as cystopurin) from the chemist without prescription.

Kawika agony auntIf I am not mistaken I think bladder infection is quite common. I know several people who had it and antibiotics worked well for them. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Take care and Good luck.
