writes: Hello, I'm 18 and just lost my virginity about a week ago. We used a condom and it didn't break or anything. My period is a little late now (although my cycle tends to run from 4-6 weeks and I'm only about 4 days past the 4 week mark) I've been told by everyone I'm being paranoid and that stress can make my periods late, and trust me, I'm stressing. I also heard that if you have sex for the first time close to your period it can make it come late. Is any of this true, or should I start getting worried?

However, it is normal in anybody's cycle for your period to be late. You said that your cycle is usually 4-6 weeks so try not to worry as worrying can delay your period in itself. If it doesnt come in 2 weeks buy a pregnancy test. Im sure you are fine, enjoy!

Tragic Rabbit is verified as being by the original poster of the questionWell technicaly I already have birth control, but I have to wait till my next period to start it, hence why I've noticed the delay.

Just relax. If your period cycles are as long as 6 weeks you are running normal so far. Go ahead and do a pregnancy test though. It will ease your mind. You might want to consider adding another form of birth control through to avoid these stressful situations in the future.

And you seem to be well within your regular zone. Which brings me to my next point. Get on the pill. It can be as cheap as five dollars a month, you can get it through planned parenthood so your parents don't have to know, and it will save you so much worrying (other than you then will have to convince your guy you should still wear condoms too).

The best thing you can do to stop yourself stressing over this is to do a test. I suppose for some people having sex for the first time near their period can mess it up.
Get yourself a test, or nip and see your doctor who'll test you for free.
I am currently pregnant and due any day and because my periods have always been irregular I wouldn't believe the nurse when she told me I was pregnant and made her do the test about 5 times I think.
Get yourself tested and try and relax. Stress does make periods late, which is mother nature's way of being extra mean :)
