Am I over thinking it when my boyfriend calls me dear?

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I haven't seen my boyfriend for about a month now, although we've talked and texted almost every day. But, recently, in the past week or so, I've noticed that when he texts me, he calls me "Dear". He calls me babe all the time and even has me as "babe" on his phone instead of my name. But, I know he likes to be sarcastic. He rarely ever calls me "Dear" and now that he's texting it to me, I'm just wondering if he is being sarcastic about it or if he actually means it. Also, when we talk on the phone, he doesn't use it either. It's either babe or baby then. But, when he texts its "Dear" Am I thinking too much into this?? We've been together for over 2 years and lived together.

I usually call my girlfriend baby, sweetie, love, my love, & babe.. those are what I use most frequently, but sometimes in texts I use a couple other ones that I don't normally speak verbally like hun, sweetheart, & bae.. I don't mean anything negative by it, sometimes its just the way I text and the words I use by text aren't always the same as the way I speak... I wouldn't worry about this unless he's actig differently toward you in a negative way. If he is still as loving and there are no issues, I wouldn't make an issue of this.

Haha, I've started affectionately and sarcastically called my boyfriend "dear" recently - I've no idea where it came from!!

So. Don't worry it's just a phase! I call him baby most of the time which I'm sure he loves! Lol.

olderthandirt agony auntA name a name What's in a name? You may be trying to find meaning somewhere where it does not exist. Why not just go with the flow? Now then, if it really upsets you tell him to call you The Princess or The Qween but not honey or love bottom. Pick a name and embrace it.

-BMBTL- agony auntYes. You're thinking too much into it. People use that word affectionately and I really don't think you should think into it! If he always calls you babe etc, then I really don't think there is any issue :)

Next time you see him just ask him why he keeps on using it, sure it doesn't mean a thing :) Don't over think it.

Good luck!
