writes:dear cupid. its my birthday today and my bf of two years has not called or text me. A few days ago he was complaining of not having money for petrol and food for himself. Last year he did not come to my birthday lunch. Am I wasting time with this guy or am i been selfish?

Well and truly wasting your time. There is no reason why he couldn't have phoned to say happy birthday at the very least, and he didn't bother last year either. Move on.
