So I really need your help to do with alcohol.

About 1 year ago I drank 3 smirnoff ices whilst I was out at a party. I suddenly felt really funny, light headed and felt like I was dying.

I had a pretty tough childhood and I've been told that I had a panic attack that evening. The thing is why did it happen when I started drinking.

Now though I have a drink now and again, but my best mate loves to get drunk at her cousins parties. I've been invited but I said I couldn't go because I haven't been drunk, im too scared.

Any tips for how to stop myself worrying too much?x

A female reader, RB92 United Kingdom +, writes (6 July 2010):

Like the poster before me pointed out your panic attack was probably caused by alcohol. Panic attacks alternatively can be caused by a huge amount of stress, and if there was anything like exams or work that was stressing you out that certainly wouldn't have helped.

Alcohol is dangerous when not drunk in moderation. As long as you're careful with how much you drink, eating whilst drinking etc you should be okay - tho if you're not, maybe consult your doctor.

They're right, that WAS a panic attack. And they can be caused by alcohol. I've had them before, but I have had alcohol since then without having a panic attack. As long as you're careful you should be fine
