A female reader, anonymous, writes (27 January 2007):

I had a similar situation at work. A superior from another company used to visit once a week and it was only after we had this incredible eye-meet that he started passing through our office 3 times a day. Each time he couldn't keep his eyes off me and would have a big sloppy grin on his face. From past experience I thought he might like me but I was unsure this time as he has a reputation of being bad-tempered and off-hand with junior staff.

Last week I saw him in the works cafeteria and he zoomed off like a frightened mouse without looking at me. I think perhaps he might like the ego boost of eye-fliration but when put in the position that you could actually talk alone, he backs off. So he's a no-go.

Beware, your admirer might be after a mere ego boost too.

Sugarbuns agony auntNot necesssarily. Could be that he thought you were someone else. Could be that he was simply curious about you and wanted to look. Doesn't mean anything automatically unless it continues and other things ensue. You didn't really give enough details for me to know if you work with this person, or have daily contact with them, or if it was simply a random stranger passing you on the street.

A female reader, smeedle United Kingdom +, writes (10 January 2007):

smeedle agony auntThere is a good chance that it does mean he is interested, I do that, when there is someone I fancy i just look away stupid really as how then are they to know that I like them, so my advice is to smile at him and when he looks back make sure he sees that you have spotted him looking and smile again, that is if you like him.
