Remember that hospitals can often be the setting for some of the most difficult and painful experiences in people’s lives: they are simultaneously places where life, death, suffering and hope are all found. Perhaps you were upset by the fact that your girlfriend is suffering and you feel that you can’t do anything about it. Perhaps the hospital caused you to remember some painful experiences from your past. Perhaps it’s just one of those random things that hospitals make you emotional. It’s certainly not rational to get this upset, but human emotions aren’t rational. Try to think about what might be at the root of your distress. And remember, you’re doing all you can: your girlfriend won’t expect anything from you other than your support, which it sounds like you’re giving her.
I wish you all the very best.

You were possibly remembering something from your past when you recalled losing a relative perhaps in hospital (older) when they passed away.
or more likely seeing her you were overwhelmed with seeing her in hospital. It may be irrational as you know she is safe there. And they will take care of her.
You just do not want to lose her. She means a lot to you.
Tell her now how very very special she is to you. I think she will be touched by you concern and your love for her
I think it is truly lovely that you care so much,
