Okay I'm 14 and I have a question that is so embarassing to ask but I would really like to get some answers...

I am a virgin and I am not sexually active although I do hook up with people, (saliva) and I want to know why I am experiencing problems with my vagina. I am pretty sure something is up but I'm not too sure what. It constantly smells. I wash regularly, but for some reason even when I come out of the shower and put on fresh underwear and pants I still smell the terrible odor. This is so disguisting but I also notice that my underwear is constantly wet. Normally from a goo-like substance... I do not experience any itchiness or burns or anything but it is just the odor and I get strange gooey substances on my pants. It stinks up everything I wear and I am tired of it. I don't know what to do, please please please help...

I know that was so akward to ask but well.. I need to know

All replies will be greatly appreciated

Mistify agony auntHi girl.

It sound to me like a bacterial infection.

these can last for AGES if left untreated.

Your doctor will put you on a simple course of antibiotics.

Really - NO NEED TO WORRY. Just have it checked out as soon as possible. I had a bacterial infection, that caused me a lot of embarrassment, because the smell was really intense.

My infection lasted for 6 months, before i went to the doctor, and after i finished my antibiotics, it was cleared up in 2 weeks.

So- just go to the doctor.

Good luck.

Wow I am currently 15 years old and I have had that poblem since about maybe 12 or 13...It began after i had moved; I became quite anxious and shy and somewhat lonely...I believe this problem may have occured after masturbating...hahA just being honest...the smell I find is not fishy or like "beer"...but an odd smell, something like rotten potatoes...it is sooo annoying...I've even had boys comment on it in 7th grade when they'd walk into a classroom going "You smell like some rotten potatoes girl"--it could fill up the entire classroom. As in terms of it being just a stage of puberty, well, I've had it for 3 years now so i don't know if that's the case??

A female reader, anonymous, writes (3 November 2007):

You might have a yeast infection. That can be very stinky. It is a beer like smell. And it is usually very itchy. But if it is a bacterial infection it smells fishy and not necessarily itchy. Both produce discharge and you can get either type of infection without ever having sexual intercourse. So get yourself to the doctor because you need medicine to cure your infection. It is really NOT a big deal. Just tell your mom your symptoms and she will rush you to the doc. Don't be scared. I have had em both. NOT a big deal. Just a bit inconvenient. The doc will fix it. Go tomorrow. But if it is a bacterial infection and you don't go to the doc right away, it can cause problems with your ovaries, and that is dangerous because you can become infertile. So go to the doc right away.

i think that if you are having these sort of issues you might want to check with your doctor about it. but im sure its just a (rather unwanted) part of puberty. but if it troubles you that much. try seeing your doctor about it. it may be embarrasing but at least youll get definate answers.

happy to help =)
