Of course, I'm not married! If she could put up the shelves and fix the car I'd let her do it, because I couldn't do it myself.

reader, anonymous, writes (16 November 2008): Where I live, it's pretty much a given, that both people work, in order to contribute to the family's financial obligations, so therefore, the parenting and household chores are undertaken by 'both' partners. ,,It's a compromise and most of the couples I know, really do their equal fair share of it all. And it works wonderfully for them, from what I have observed. It 's commonplace now, with the new generation that one partner is not superior to the other, but on an equal footing with varied preferences and choices. The old traditional way of thinking where Mom is home with the kids and Dad is working, is becoming less and less ...at least here in Canada, it is.
There is however a lot of compromising and negotiating that goes on. Some couples agree that if the male is good at fixing, then the female does the cooking or vice versa. As far as the parenting of children, definitely both parents do their equal share of the job.
So my answer to all your whole survey would be 'both' people in a couple are 100% responsible for doing the jobs you listed. With the exception of 'feeding the baby'. That would depends on age of the baby. Mother's do breastfeed so Dad usually picks up the slack with baby such as bathing or changing diapers. Or just having a good cuddle time, so Mom can have a break.
