writes: Hi! This is probably a little long , but I just am a little worriedBasically I'm taking the combined birth control pill and have been doing so for roughly two months. This is largely because my periods were VERY irregular (a three or four month gap between my periods were not uncommon) and after talking to my mum I discovered she had the same problem as me at my age and birth control pills helped to regulate her.It seems to have worked for me because after taking my first pill , my period came during the pill-free week , something that's never happened before to me , my periods actually being regular. However this month I became sexually active for the first time , I took the pill at roughly the same time each day , and my boyfriend always used condoms whilst we were having sex. However one monday I stayed over at my boyfriends , on that day I had taken my pill at the proper time and we used condoms during sex , but the morning after I didn't take my pill for tuesday much later on in the day, we only had sex one other time and it was a week after this event (and all my pills were taken at the correct time after that tuesday)So now it is my pill free week (second day of it) and although I'm getting typical period symtoms I'm terrified my period won't come because of the late pill (i.e I got pregant because of taking the pill at a later time than normal , about 8-10 hours later)If I don't get a period during the pill-free week does this mean I am pregnant?I have read in the information that came with the pill that skipping a period can happen, but I'm still a little nervous.Sorry this is much longer than it needs to be , but I just thought I'd tell you as much as possibe.

As long as it's not a frequent thing, as long as you take it the same day you're still protected. I wouldn't worry too much. And while you're on the pill skipping a period doesn't mean you're pregnant. It's not a real period anyways, it's a withdrawal bleed. Take a deep breath, relax. Your chances of pregnancy are very small. In the packet it should say something about a missed pill, most say as long as you take it within about 24 hours you're still protected.

You can take your pill up to 12 hours late and it will still be effective - you took yours between 8 and 10 hours late so you have nothing to worry about. It can take a few months for your body to get really used to the pill (in a regulation/period way - it works as a contraceptive from after the first week of the first time that you start taking it) - I changed brands just over a year ago, and even though I've had no problems since, after my first month on the new pill during my period, I felt very very ill. Also your boyfriend has been wearing condoms which is extra responsible (as the pill, if taken 100% correctly, is 99.9% effective.) I take it you had three months worth of pills in your box to start with, so after your next sheet you'll be due another appointment with the nurse before you get your next box of pills. So any worries or questions you have, you can ask her about =]

Typically as long as you take your pill within 12 hours of your normal time you are still protected, so I am pretty sure you are not pregnant. Plus you said you used a condom - so this reduces the chances even more. So I think you might just be worrying a bit too much here over nothing - unless the condom broke then you are not going to be pregnant.
I take the pill and during my pill free week, my period tends to come 5 days after I took my last pill. So you are only 2 days in which means there is still plenty of time for your period to arrive. If it doesnt come by the time you have to start taking your pill again then I would ring the nurse at your doctor's surgery and ask her what you should do - they might bring you in just for a check up to see if everything is ok.
But try not to worry - stress can actually stop your periods from arriving, so the more you worry about being pregnant the later your period will arrive! My body does that to me all the time, whenever I have left it a little late to take the pill my next period will always be late, it is like it is taunting me, trying to make me even more scared!
So keep calm, the chances of you being pregnant are minimal so if you keep on worrying the chances are you will delay your period further. And if it still has not arrived by the end of the pill free week give your GP surgery a ring and they should be able to help you.
I hope this helps and good luck!
