A female Australia age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I have just found out during my annual pap smear that I have HPV or a genital wart about 1cm inside my vagina. Its a single tiny hard lump but the doctor says its a wart all the same. Im a grown woman, educated (have 2 degrees), intelligent and cant beleive this has happened to me.

I am having trouble dealing with this and feel like my life is OVER. If i knew a painless guaranteed sucessfull way i think id kill myself.

I was wondering if anyone else has genital warts on here and if their life was ruined by it?

I have always been careful but apparently condoms are little protection as they only cover the penis and warts can be anywhere DOWN THERE. I thought I would be safe but I wasn't!!!!!!!!!!!! Screw safe sex it doesn't work may as well just have done it without a condom.

My MAIN question is what are the best antiviral medications including vitamins for genital warts? I cant use a topical cream as its inside!!!!!!!!!!!

Also do you think I will ever find anyone who will be able to deal with this nasty s*** and love me?

I know it feels like its the end of the world but it's not. Just do you research and get as much knowledge about it. You will find someone who will love you. There are a lot of people and couples living with genital warts/herpes.

Don't be embarassed about it, but off course, don't tell everyone.

Hi - it is more common than you would believe and does NOT make you a dirty / nasty person or someone to avoid. It could happen to anyone. My sister contracted it and was hysterical felt like she was going to be seen as dirty. Fact is she thinks she got it when she received oral sex from a guy who used to get cold sores - it was just unlucky and it lay dormant in her system for several years before she knew anything about it. My advice is that because this is related to your immune system you do everything you can to boost your immune system (look up natural methods - Echinacea is very good for example) and work to keep yourself healthy - diet, fitness etc and try and remove stress. The more people understand about this health issue the better because it has a lot of uncessary stigma - when you get to know someone you can let them know and should avoid sex during an outbreak. Read up as much as you can.

A female reader, kaylagal United States +, writes (5 June 2009):

kaylagal agony auntHey there,

Please don't be so hard on yourself. Firstly, remember that it could have been worse, you could have contracted HIV.

It is what it is and now you have to live with it. They say a good diet is great and also that Lysine (amino acid)does wonders. Take some time to research and educate yourself on it, and maybe join some of those "living with genital warts websites". I'm not sure what the stats are in Australia but in America about 1 out of 4 adult americans are living with some kind of STD.

You will find someone who will love you. I have heard plenty of stories about it. Just do your research and work on minimizing your break outs. Watch out for foods that trigger out breaks. I'm sure it's like diabetes, you just have to educate yourself.

I know you're petrified but this is not an issue to commit suicide over. There are millions of people in the world who are much less fortunate than you, and the thought of suicide doesn't cross their mind.

Oh, don't stress too much coz that triggers outbreaks too. Take care dear.
