Sure . You don't only have a baby in there but also placenta and amniotic liquid, plus your body tissues retain a lot of water ( around 4.5 or 5 Kg. by the end of the pregnancy ! )

Yes. Many women start showing around or after the 16th week , but it's a very individual thing, a couple weeks sooner is normal too.
