Many colleges look for extra-curricular activities on their applicants' application forms. Running a club falls into the category of E-C. It is perfectly legitimate experience of leadership. Showing that you have taken keen interest in a personal subject and followed it through to become something solid like a club/organisation with other members shows strength of character and a capability for responsibility. There's no reason you shouldn't mention this in your interview. Remember also that if the rest of your application is up to scratch, then them being uninterested in your club involvement won't really matter. Good luck with the interview!
