There are a number of things you all could do, if sex is really something you are wanting to happen. For one, hopefully he's done his research and can spend a long time heating you up before-hand. Also, perhaps you could share a glass or two of wine before you guys begin: it heats up the body making it more apt to become aroused, which will help you out a lot, not to mention loosen your nerves about it.
I think, though, he probably needs to work you with his hands more, for the time being, to slowly ease your body into getting used to the shapes and feels of what will be going on below, and his hand movements don't even have to immitate intercourse. If you're both comfortable he could just leave his hand in a certain position for a while, perhaps wriggling it a little bit, and maybe as time progresses apply a little more pressure or an added finger and so on.
