Will the stretch marks go away by losing weight?

Question - (9 March 2008) 1 Answers - (Newest, 9 March 2008)
A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I am 20 years old and my weight has gone up and down almost my whole life. The problem is that I have these horrible stretch marks on my stomach, on each side of my belly button. It makes me so self conscious about wearing a bathing suit (even more than I already am!) and in relationships, ect. I've recently started a new job that's kept me busy and I'm losing weight. My question is, if I lose weight will the stretch marks go away? I have heard they never do, but some people have told me that since I am young my skin can "bounce" back and become somewhat normal again. Thanks in advance!
