I took Microgynon 30 for severe stomach cramps and to help regulate my periods, I did not put on an ounce of weight, it just depends on the individual. Talk to your gp about which pill is best for you. xXx

Hey Anon! I used to have awful period pain before i was on the pill. Most months i would be bed-ridden the first few days!! I've been on the pill for 3 years now. I must say, I heard that there was the possible 'side-effect' of weight-gain but i just kept an eye on what i ate. Some people may put weight on, but you just have to keep an eye on it. I even lost a stone last year (Lost my puppy fat) I've now put on some of that but the pain is so much better, hardly anything nowadays. So give it a go, but if u are a bit weary of ur weight, keep an eye on it, what harm can that do!? x

In addition to what I previously wrote, I thought I should mention that I hardly get cramps after being on bc for so long, too. I know most of my friends don't have them as bad or don't have them at all after being on bc. You might want to give your doctor a call and see what he/she has to say about it, too. :)

I use to suffer really bad with period pains too and I went on the pill to ease them and from then on I have never had any period pains to that extent just the mild niggles just before my period started, I never put on weight the whole time i was on the pill but everybody is different and react differently to medication, it might be worth trying and seeing how you get on, there are different types of the pill each one suiting different people.

Hi Anon,
Well, sometimes people do put on weight from taking the pill, but that doesn't mean that you specifically would. People's bodies are all different and react differently to the pill.
My doctor told me that the reason most women put on weight after they start taking the pill is because it affects their appetite. Many women eat more food because they have more cravings as a result of the extra hormones.
As long as you keep eating healthy and exercise, you should do fine. (BTW - if it makes you feel any better, I was taking the pill for 3 years and didn't gain weight - plus I hate exercising so I don't really do that (haha). I use the ring now, which I find more convenient. The pill and the ring both supposedly have the same side effects, though. I haven't gained weight using this method, either.)
Hope this helps.
