A female reader, sunshine16 United States +, writes (30 September 2010):

You should call and have your Doctor write you a script for some oral Nystatin. This will get rid of the thrush quickly, yogurt is a good route to go but it will take longer to work. As the antibiotics destroy all that good, normal flora in the body along with the bad, then you can have repeat occurances of thrush and or yeast like infections. Stay with the yogurt or a pill like culturelle and get you some nystatin, life will be good. Feel better and whatever you do, finish up that PCN!!!!!

A female reader, Yodler United States +, writes (29 September 2010):

You need to eat some yogurt every day as long as you are on any antibiotic that you can have with dairy.

Then at least two weeks after.

Your body has 'good' bacteria all over it. Antibiotics are indiscriminate killers, leaving nothing in the ecological niche that bacteria fills. This leaves more food for yeast to grow, causing thrush and yeast infections.

As unpleasant as thrush is, antibiotics can also cause severe debilitating diarrhea.

Ask you care provider for some swish & swallow if you can't eat yogurt.

Whatever you do stick to those antibiotics! If you must quit taking them, let you Doctor know immediately so they can prescibe another kind.
