My doctor never warned me of any dangers involving depo. I have recently read of people on it only a year and yet 5 years later they are still infertile. Have I destroyed my body in taking this injection for so long. Can I hope to ever have children??

This is a medical question best left to a doctor.
However it can take a long time to get pregnant.

Normal, and nothing to worry about just yet. Depo shot effects are long lasting, it may take up to 10- 12 months after the last shot for your body to be able to conceive again. For this reason it's not the right contracception for those who are planning getting pregnant right after their last shot.
That's generally the first things doctors warn you about when discussing the pros and cons of depo shots, and I am surprised yours did not.

You have ONLY been trying to get pregnant for 6 months- it can take a lot longer then that.
Make an appointment with your doctor and figure out what the next step is.
