writes: I have had a horrendous few weeks. My boyfriend of 6 years (I am 20) we got together when we were 14 has cheated on me. And at first I thought I could get over this but I found out there was a hell a lot of girls (sexting, kissing, meeting up etc...) I'm not mad at what he has done more that he couldn't be honest and ask for a separation - I actually would have understood we have drifted apart a bit since but he never seemed the type to decieve. Ahh well lesson in life ay?? (No I am not actually this upbeat about it I am quite cut up I just know there is nothing I can do now and have to look forward - Im a young girl who has learnt a lot through it. No this is my question - we were always very careful through sex i.e. condoms, the pill etc... but we did have a few accidents in which I had to get the morning after pill just to be doubly sure. But he has cheated on me - I have a feeling there was sex involved even though he would never admit after 6 years I know when he is lying. If that was unprotected (drunken night = highly likely) I could have anything. So I have already had a chlymydia test and I am awaiting the results. Howvever, I have been quite ill recently and had to have a series of blood tests for it - will std results come up in that or should I go for a test anyway? Surely they would alert me?Sorry if that sounds dumb. But I'm confused. Please help - any advice on how to get over this as well would be great!

I've recently been quite ill with suspected glandular fever so I had blood tests for that which came back ok. I actually got diagnosed with a viral infection - woop di doo!
Yes I did a chlymydia test immediately as they are easy to access and I actually got my results back which are all clear! I can't actually egt in touch with my doctor now about the blood tests as the results are already in - so If I had the clymydia test - it is likely they checked for others as well? I think it would be safer to have the blood tests done by what people are saying!
Sorry to sound ridicously stupid and niave about all this - but I never thought this would happen to me - I guess that is where I went wrong.

Blood tests look for specific conditions that a doctor might suspect you of having such as a thyroid or liver function for example. You would need to request a full STD screen which would involve blood, swabs and urine samples. If you prefer you can get this done at specialist family planning clinics that operate in most areas. If you call NHS Direct they can advise you on your local clinic or seek advice from your GP. It would be wise to get checked out and most clinic's would call you if a test came back positive (although you are expected to chase the results yourself).

Yep, you have to go to the Dr. for the express reason for testing for STD's. Explain what happened and ask for the whole battery of tests. Sorry this happened to you. :(

I believe they have to test you for an exact thing. They don't analyze the blood alone and just see things, they test the blood by mixing it with other chemicals (for a lack of better words and knowledge) and then see if there is a result in that particular blood test for that particular thing. That is why they sometimes need many blood tests if they are to test different things. After the blood has been tested for one thing is it useless for testing for other things.
You said you had a series of blood tests, did they tell you what they tested you for? If not you can call them and ask if they can test you for hiv as well. Other tests I believed are used to test for std's, they are not all blood tests, some are urine tests and some are inspections where you need to see a gynecologist.
