writes: Hey aunts please help!I started taking the contraceptive pill (microgynon 30) on Tuesday for the first time ever! I started on the first day of my period, and I've read the information leaflet about 4 times, the doctor told me and the leaflet says by taking the pill on the first day of my period I have contraceptive protection at once, and I had my first ever unprotected sex with my boyfriend today.(I'm still on my period btw!) The only problem is that my little sister has threadworms so the whole family has had to take a tablet, I took mine Tuesday night. It's just I completley forgot that some medicines stop the pill from working so you should use other forms of contraception. I've reread the leaflet and I've searched the internet and I can't find anything that says it stops it from working (I think I took the ovex thread worm pill as I have to take another in 2 weeks) does anybody know anything about this? or has anyone been in a similar situation as I'm not sure whether I'm at risk of pregnancy! Thank you so much in advance xx

Your pharmacist should know. Usually only antibiotics counteract birth control pills. Did you let your doctor know you were on birth control before they prescribed the thread worm pills? Call your pharmacy and ask and if they do not know, then call your sisters doctor who prescribed the tablets.

I've just looked this up in the British National Formulary (BNF Geeky medics drug bible) and from what I can tell there is no interactions between Microgynon and any of the threadworm treatments. The tablets you have to be concerned with are mainly antibiotics.
I would still use condoms as a precaution as the BNF has been known to be wrong on very rare occasions. But I'm fairly confident that you'll be ok.

Call the pharmacy or the doctor's office and ask they will know 100%.
I doubt however that the worm pills will mess with your birth control. BUT that is just a guess. Worm pills kills eggs and worms in the gastointestinal tract.
