I would not read much into it. It's just a way of saying. "Be a good girl ( or boy ) ". " Behave " " Don't do anything that I would not do ! ". It's not unusual at all, and it's just an attempt at humour- or maybe at being
" cute ".

I think it's "just" a phrase, thought perhaps a little odd when it's from a grown man to his grown girlfriend and not parent to child.
Maybe he thought he was being "cute"?
