My partner has had a sperm test but has been told he needs to do a second one, does anyone know why this might be. My partner is away with the army at the moment and cannot get back yet to provide another sample.

I agree, probably the first sample gave a very poor result, and now they need to check whether that is because the sample was compromised in some way, or whether that really is his sperm count.
Only thing to do is get it tested again when he's back.

The semen sample must be kept at room temperature, and the container must be spotlessly clean. If the sample spills or leaks out, the test is invalid and needs to be repeated. Except for liquid paraffin, no other lubricant should be used during masterbation.
It could of been contaminated, so a repeat is needed. I dont think it's anything to worry about or the Dr would have asked for an urgent meeting.
