why would a 16-year-old boy have over 60+ bottles of slimming pills in his bedroom and in his loft??

A female United Kingdom age , anonymous writes:

I am a mother of two. My sons are 16 and 21. My youngest one (16) is studying at college, my 21 year old one is in university.

When I was cleaning out the house the other day, I found 20 bottles of slimming pills in my 16-year-old son's room + another 60 bottles hidden in his loft as well. (They were all unopened by the way)

I also found 7 more bottles of slimming pills under his bed as well - all unopened, as with the other ones.

I have no idea how he got them or even why he had 20 bottles in a cupboard in his bedroom. I am worried he may consume them, or become addicted to them.

I can't confront him about it at the moment as he is on a college trip abroad in Europe. I worry he'll be buying more slimming pills while he's there.

My 16-year-old son is definitely not obese, or overweight, so he has no legitimate need for them - I can't understand why he has them anyway.

I've tried speaking to my husband about the problem but he dismisses it as ridiculous and said "why would our 16-year-old son even have slimming pills??"

What are we meant to do about this problem? And why would a 16-year-old boy have over 60+ bottles of slimming pills in his bedroom and in his loft??

Please help me, I would appreciate it if anyone could help - your advice would be invaluable.

Maria

P.S. I am from the United Kingdom, if that is of any help.

Sweetheart calm down try not to worry, first alot of slimming pills have a street value as thy can sometimes have the same affect as speed, now like my friend coutry woman says dont whatever you do go in there with guns ablazing you will just get an angry response. Ask your elder son if he knows anything about this. and get the name of the pills look it up on the net and find out a little more about it. You say they are unopened he may have been asked to look after them for someone else. I do understand your worry but when your son gets back you need to be calm and just keep an eye on things for awhile your a mother its natural to be worried this way but be carefull who you talk to about this. you will have to tell your son you have come across them at some point just be calm and talk with him as he may not like the fact that he has been given the job of looking after them if it is for someone else he may be scared, either way just talk in a relaxed way with him ok love and keep in touch on how things are going Take care xxxxxxxx

Country Woman agony auntOK sweetheart,

Calm down first of all, do you notice your 16 yr old son doing strange things at all around meal times or erratic eating at all?

If the answer to the above is NO, have you considered that he may be selling these pills to raise funds for college and has somehow obtained these through contacts at college.

If the pills are unconsumed then I would not feel that he is personally taking them.

I do think it is wrong to ignore it though, for your own peace of mind you need to know the truth.

OK so he is away at the moment, have you talked to your older son at all and asked him if your younger son has ever talked to him about being overweight or needing to slim in any way or the fact that he may have a sideline to raise funds for college etc?

I think when he comes home if you have any info from your oldest son then sit down with him and tell him you just wanted to tidy his room and you were concerned when you came across the pills, you wouldn't be a true mother if you weren't at all worried about finding them and the implications.

Don't stress yourself out until you know more about why he has them though.

Don't go in guns blazing either as he will recoil that he has been found out.

Give him time to get home and settled again and see if loads of bottles suddenly disappear from his room on his return as this is more of a true sign that he is either selling them or storing them for a mate instead of taking them himself.

Slimming pills are extremely expensive and a lucrative way to raise some cash.

What are the pills called btw - r they Hoodia or something similar?

Get the name and check it out online to see exactly what they are used for and any side affects.

He could be a potential entrepreneur but if they are at all dodgy or the means by which he got them is be careful who you discuss this with as so called friends can always be the good citizen when they want to be.

Keep us posted OK and although it is hard try not to worry OK.
