i have found the best way to get them to spill is to be quiet, let him be upset and when he is ready he will tell you . make yourself available to listen but dont be pushy and dont be judgemental or offer your opions when he does tell u things unless he asks. but dont let him walk all over you when he is in thaat mood either. tell him, I will not tolerate you being mean and putting me down so if you are going to be like that (either you need to leave or i will leave... what ever the case may be) and you can talk to me when you are feeling better. and stick to it . most of the time i dont get halfway through it before he is nice again. it really works. let me know if this helps

you have to know that most guys dont open up as much as girls do...so just ask him the truth on why he's mad, if he wants to he'll tell you.
gudd luck
