reader, anonymous, writes (5 September 2010): You know, I often ask myself the same thing. I think that anyone who does that does not really like you or care much. I think that when you like them, they secretly like the attention, and are flattered by it. But when you lose interest, they perhaps worry they are suddenly not desirable, or miss that feeling of being admired. So they try to get your interest back.
It could also be a power thing. Like, they do not really want you. But they like having you on a sort of leash, and so when you start to walk away and forget about them, they don't like it and try to pull you back. It is good for their ego. Just some ideas anyway, I may be wrong, but those are some ideas I can think of.
