A female Netherlands age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I started my new job about a year ago in a large international company. I was relocated to a different country far away from friends and family. My new team is made up of 5 people all local people apart from me.this year 4 of them got promoted apart from me.We are all new graduates in the team and I don't understand why I didn't get promoted. I felt I worked the hardest ! Is it because I am not from the country? I am not sure what else to think please help.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I feel slightly better. I just remembered that i did start at least one month later than the others although we all started last year. I will ask for some feedback tomorrow. Thanks again.

kellyO agony auntHi,

If it is a norm for the company to promote new a graduate after a year and you haven't been promoted usually the company should be able to give you specific feedback about your performances. This might help your improve for next time.

Also, did the other graduates start exactly the same month as you? Maybe you still have one or two more months to go before you make a full year ? I think discussing things with your manager might help don't rush into a conclusion yet.usually appraisals are given at least once a year to staff so it shouldn't be a surprise if you ask for one.

Good luck
