So I was playing Halo with a couple of girl friends the other day,and than her boyfriend and some friends showed up,and there was this one guy that I just wanted to punch in the face.

Why is it that people call anything they don't like by female words?SOB,slut, whore.Or when a guy wins they say something like 'you got raped'.Even girls do it with their friends.

I figure,if you're a guy and you're being mean or whatever,I'll think of you as an asshole.If you're a girl,a bitch.

The same thing with girls being slutty if anyone finds out they've had sex with someone but guys being cool.

But I'm just ranting here.

A reader, anonymous, writes (11 November 2007):

"You got raped" is gender neutral in my opinion since males can be raped as well as females.

As for others "bitch" is the equivalent of "bastard".

For "slut" and "whore" there is "jagoff" and "wanker" and no matter what a woman does or says she'd want to do I've never heard a woman called a "pervert". I also don't recall ever hearing a female referred to as an "asshole" or cock-sucker.

I could go into more things beyond just words that put men down vs. putting women down but that would be out out of place here. I might write an article about it someday.

fishdish agony auntYou should take a womens/gender class if you have one at the college you may attend in the future, because they'll explain that women have been historically put down verbally and culturally, which still has lasting impacts on our society today. Just as "fag" represents something undesirable, so do sluts, hoes, and bitches--the fact that women have been devalued speaks to the male-dominated world we live in--there is no real male equivalent, sure there's dick and prick, but does that really have the same power as cunt or twat [my least favorite]-they can say these things and have them have more power because they have more power in LIFE. you should just tally the times in Superbad where there's a put-down that uses gendered language and see how many times it's male vs. female. it's disgusting. there's MY feminist rant.

A male reader, dapone 1 United Kingdom +, writes (10 November 2007):

dapone 1 agony auntHi Dizzycat.

Its alright for you to to complain, just get it off your chest, the things you have mentioned i believe come down to the fact that some people are more mature than others, all the things you have mentioned are a part of growing up, one day you will look back on this stage of your life and wonder what all the fuss was about.

Yes people do call each other and say the most hurtful things it is because they are not mature enough and think it is a great to show off to their mates.

I now it is hurtful but because you are more mature than them it is best to learn to ignore them and take no notice of whatever they say, most of the time these people are jealous of other people and cannot bare to be left behind, so they play up, get on with your life , be happy and enjoy yourself dont let them get to you, your better than that.

Hope this will help you.

Actually, when I play games, I rarely refer a moment by a 'female' term. Usually "bastard" or "bastard whore" - my favorite, or "mother of all that is lun".

Mind you, I call my male friends bitches if they do something silly to me, or I call my female friends asses for the same thing. The thing that gets to me however is when someone uses "fag". To refer to someone else as fag in the pretense that "fag" is a bad thing. However, people have been using "gay" far before it was considered an incorrect word to use since some homosexuals are sensitive to that sort of wording. I guess it depends on how it's used and the history behind the word(s).
