Because its about the power and ego boost.
A girl starts out as a child and and is generally bossed around by everyone, anmd has tons of rules to follow.
Then all of a sudden she grows breasts and fills out. Now she has this allure and power over men, of all ages. Even if she isnt putting out, a little smile and shapely clothes start opening doors everywhere.
Now why waste this on a 16yo boy, when she can use her charm as a ticket to adult soceity? The little deeb is the same age as her and doesnt have much to offer. Older guys have cool cars, can get her into clubs, are educated and have exciting careers. Its an ego boost for her.
There is no equivelent in soceity for a boy to get such an early boost, expect perhaps a football star to the alumni of his school, and that limited scope. I'd imagine a pretty 17yo in a sundress could charm her way into anywhere.

reader, anonymous, writes (10 November 2006): When we are younger we (girls) always see the gorgeous older bloke and think wow. It never did it for me looking at blokes younger than me. They looked such wimpist idiots. My first bloke was 4 years older than me. Second was 6 years old. Now i am older and wiser (ahem!!!) my bloke is two years younger than me, looks gorgeous, has the body to die for and runs around after me all the time. I think it all depends on the individual and how we feel at that stage in our lives. Take care and enjoy life.xx

reader, anonymous, writes (10 November 2006): for me at least they are more filled out and muscly etc their bodies mature as well as themselves.
I think it's also the way i've been raised, i used to watch shows with my mother and she'd point out the actors (that are mega buff) that she liked and i started to like them too and always have now so i'd much rather be with an Adam Baldwin over a Tom Cruise -there really is no comparrison between them too :)

 It's all about maturity and stability. Women tend to mature in the relationship part of the brain a lot quicker than men... And older men tend to have more things together in life... for a 16 year old girl a guy in college seems more career oriented and stable than i high school boy and so on. It's not always the case i dated a boy in high school 1 year my junior so it doesnt always swing that way, but it's instinct
