i think the reason he is being like this is probably because he is scared, as the relationship gets stronger there can be more pressure. he is probably wondering 'will i be able to care for her and her son?' ...don't worry, i doubt that he would have gone off of you that fast without someone saying something maybe about your past to him?
its really good that you have told him how you feel, try not to let it get you down as he could just be going through a rough patch in his life which might not be related to you.
