 Perhaps one of his exes had slept with a very large number of guys, and that caused problems in their relationship. It's also possible he's a virgin, or very sexually inexperienced, and so nervous about you being more experienced than him. Have you asked him why he wants to know?

Tell him you don't really want to talk about your exes, but that you are being honest about your sexual past and being a pretty girl has nothing to do with it, those were your experiences, your values and your choices, pretty or not. And then drop the subject....it isn't any of his business, especially this soon in getting to know each other. He also may be trying to see how easy it will be to get into your pants, so be a little cautious on this one, I don't like the sounds of his interrogation and his comments after you gave him the answer.
But I don't know him, maybe he thinks you are just too good to be true....but I would take things slow and try to figure out what he is looking for.
