 Could be a nature thing as well because in the animal kingdom they have mating seasons. Maybe that's what they get ready for in the pride, all having their newborns together. Just a thought.

This answer to your question, there was a study done in the 70's that claimed women synchronise their menstrual cycles when living together. However, further studies have failed to prove this and in fact if synchronisation does occur it is more by chance than by scientific reason.

 It's not a phenomenon that's been really, conclusively explained. Some researchers doubt it exists (obviously they never lived in the dorms while getting their degrees). The most convincing theory I've seen is competition. Women are most likely to conceive during a certain point in their cycle. This is the time when they are most likely to seek out a mate for purely genetic reasons - that is, he is taller, healthier, and hairier than the other cavemen.
Back then, it was usually that one caveman reproducing with large groups of cavewomen. Being on the same cycle makes it easier to compete for the guy's attention. Basically, they get in synch to maximize their chance to steal men from each other. So they can smell each other's hormones, and that in turn affects their own hormone production.
The theory has holes in it - for instance, one would think it would be more difficult to cuckold a lesser male into investing his resources into her offspring if her cycle was predictable that way - but that's why it's not conclusively explained.
Either that, or God is showing off His sense of humor again.

It's actually a nature thing. When women spend a long time together, their hormones and periods start to synchronize. I don't know the science behind it. All I know is that it's a natural, biological thing.
