reader, anonymous, writes (1 September 2009): Hahah...I've got that surname actually, I get it too sometimes :) it can be annoying but I just ignore it, because they don't mean to offend me or anything! If he knows it winds you up then he's just teasing you :)

I call my fella by his last name. It's just the nickname I have for him... and while I call him "snugglemuffin" in the occasional moments, his last name is his favorite pet name that I call him. So to me, it's a very sweet nickname.
If it really bothers you, why not say something like, "why so formal, Johnson (insert his last name there)? That's what teachers call me, not my boyfriend!" or something far more clever...
