This isn't about love but I could really use some advice. I hope that's ok. I poured lots of money into a tv show pilot, the problem is I'm not motivated to continue with the idea. I think the idea is good and needed but I find myself dragging myself to get sponsors. I started the idea hoping I would gain passion while I progress along but it doesn't seem to be working. I even got in contact with the program manager at a top tv station and I have very little interest to meet with her. I keep avoid making my presentation and I made the pilot almost a year ago. Should I just call it quits and let all the money i put into this pilot go to waste or keep pushing and hope something sends a spark? I feel this way with every great idea I get I have. no drive. what can i do?

These are clues you gave: “I'm not motivated to continue with the idea”, “I started the idea hoping I would gain passion”, “I feel this way with every great idea I get”.

There are (at least) two possible explanations for your plight.

First. Making TV shows may not be your mission in life. If you are working on your mission in life, you will have motivation and passion, if you are not, no amount of hoping will build passion. What is your mission in life? Don’t know? There is a chapter entitled ‘How to Find Your Mission in Life’ in Richard Bolles book ‘What Color is Your Parachute’. You can find it free online, as well as many other resources.

Second. Excess Baggage that you may be carrying - defined as all those things that we can’t see about ourselves that keep getting in our way. It could be a style of thinking, reacting, or perceiving; it could be a fear, an ideology, an old passion. It’s excess baggage if it meets one of three criteria, it comes between you and success, it comes between you and satisfaction, it makes you harder to love. These are quotes from a 2004 book called Excess Baggage by Judith Sills. Bottom line is there may be something inside of you that is holding you back.

Maybe your mission in life is to be an incubator of great ideas to be handed-off to others for execution… Maybe find a partner who is great at execution.

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (18 February 2019):

chigirl agony auntI dont think you actually lack spark or motivation. You put a lot of money in it. No one puts a lot of money into something they just feel "meh" about. I think you're shit scared of failure. And it's a lot easier to just say "oh, I didnt really care anyway", than to contact those important and necessary people and face rejection.

Its like in a relationship, it's a lot easier to break up after having made a mistake, than to own up to it and face being dumped. Right now, you're just backing out because you feel scared of rejection and that your idea just isnt good enough.

How to fix it? Og back to basics. What made you want to put all this money into it to begin with? And then, screw wether it's good or not, you have the pilot, now go with it! Make yourself a deal that you will Pitch it/sell it/approach x number of people about it. Whether you get rejected or not. Just hit that amount of people, and then you can decide whether you will just drop it, or continue with it.

But dont drop it now, that just stupid.

Jmtmj agony auntBetter to vent your doubts here than to the program manager.

Suck it up, fake confidence in your idea if you have to, but give it all you have. Be an unscrupulous salesman for an hour or so..

You’ll regret not trying.

WiseOwlE has said it all so well. I only say now you have reached this stage, go and meet the program manager, you have nothing to lose and listen to her advice and comments carefully. IMO you have talent but you lack preseverance and patience. You must learn to push yourself even when you feel defeated. That is how you turn failure to success. And as WiseOwlE said keep us posted how it goes. You really have got us interested. Good luck.

A reader, anonymous, writes (18 February 2019):

You fear failure, and have to believe in yourself and your idea. You know ideas get tested, and they either succeed or they fail. If you've come this far, go with it.

You're gifted. Now is not the time to freeze-up!

The devil is a liar. He brings doubt and laziness to offset blessings and success. My friend, you've got this. You can handle it whatever the outcome. Sometimes it starts out slow and builds a momentum. Have faith my friend. It will be a success as long as you finish what you've started.

Someone is speaking doubt or not giving you their support; and now you're struggling. You're scared of the outcome. Don't waste money. It's fear. I know many people are nonbelievers in faith or worship. Sometimes a little prayer and a little faith is all it takes, my friend. You're afraid of criticism, and that brings on discouragement.

Sit-down and go over your plan. Tweak-it and re-energize. Psyche yourself into the belief that this is your calling and you can only succeed. It's true! Not just a ruse or a pipe-dream. Press on!!!

Even if you fail, you won't be kicking yourself for being lazy and not giving it your 100%. It takes hard work! It will not fall into your lap.

Don't give-up! That's the answer. You don't give-up, you go for it! I don't know who got in the way or said something to discourage you; but whoever it is, don't believe him or her.

You can handle the success. If you work hard, have faith in your efforts, you will reap a great reward.

I'll put-in a word for you in a prayer. Believer or nonbeliever, you need a push! You've got it.

Please comeback and give updates. Don't deny yourself this chance, my friend. God be with you!
