It means you are seeking to compare feelings he has for his girlfriend, to feelings he has for you.
This question you're asking has a bit more meaning to it, I think? Maybe that you're wanting someone to say "He still fancies you/wants to be with you/sees something in you that he still wants"?
Even if it isn't what you want or what you think he wants...your subconcious is telling you to look deeper into it then you should.
He is an ex for a reason. Don't look for reasons to go back with him.

 It sounds like he feels resentment from something you did. Did you break up with him? That could be it. He might also be jealous he doesnt have you anymore. But either way as long as he keeps to himself it doesnt sound like something you couldnt be hurt from.
