Sometimes boys this age feel the need to "show out" for their friends. It's a direct reflection of their immaturity and age. He will probably outgrow it someday, but it will not be soon. You can talk to him and hopefully speed up that process. If that doesn't work, then move on to someone else. goodluck ;)

He'll be trying to look cool in front of his friends, sadly at your expense. Ever seen the film Grease? Watch that. One minute, a guy can be caring, polite and sensitive. But in front of his friends, he'll often try to look cool. If he is getting to you, say something. If he gets angry, tell him you will not put up with him acting that way.

Well at this age this behaviour is quite normal, all teenager guys act differently with there friends as they are scared that the wont fit in otherwise so they act all macho. I wouldnt worry about this it is comletely normal and through time he will learn like all guys do that he should be himself no matter what.
