Why does it still hurt after all this time?

I feel as if i'm over my ex.. but sometimes I do still think of him and it really unsettles me, he has a new girlfriend now, I don't feel jealous, she seems perfectly nice, but I can't help feel hurt if I see pictures of them together. Me and his mum still go to salsa on a Tuesday and I don't like going to their house as he will be there and it feels akward so I get her to pick me up. Our relationship was rocky and we had alot of drama before it eventually ended in a split (which was civil)

I suppose my ultimate question is:

Why do I still think of him after months of being apart and it still hurts me to see him with his new love, especially when it's been 6 months since we split up?
