A female United States age 26-29, anonymous writes:

So there's this guy I like. We've been texting a lot and he's also shown some signs that he likes me, but lately he hasn't been talking to me. Sometimes he'd treat me like I'm Special one day, then the next day treat me like we've never met. I'm so confused, people have been saying that he likes me back but he just keeps confusing me. Does he not take intrest in me anymore? Please help, I don't know what to do.

A female reader, Dorothy Dix Australia +, writes (23 February 2012):

Hi there. He probably does like you, but maybe he's not sure of how you feel.

So he only goes so far, then backs off a bit.

You might need to give him some encouragement.

The reason he texts you is because he is probably a bit shy, and so texting you is easier.

Texting is also pretty limited. And messages can be very easily misinterpreted and offence taken, when it was completely unintentional.

Words get abbreviated, and information gets left out, which really doesn't help matters much either.

Perhaps you could start talking person to person - rather than just texting, in future.

You can say so much more when you are looking at each other face to face, and really get to know each other.

Texting is a bit of a barrier to true communication. It's so impersonal. You can't see the other person's face or the mood they are in. It's just a series of abbreviated words.

You probably need to talk more and text less.

Then see how things go after that.
