Why does he act differently now he knows I like him?

Before, my crush's friends used to act shy and awkward around me. Which I thought was weird because they were all outgoing. But once I told him that I liked him (he didn't say anything but he told my friend that yes, he liked me too), they started acting nice and make an effort to be close to me. Why is that?
