I used to date your typical pretty boy ( btw, in hindsight , his best quality was that... he was a very pretty boy . Which goes to show that even Aunts who pride themselves for their level of cool-headedness and emotional maturity had to learn the hard way somehow :) When we went out together to our neighborhood watering hole , the poor guy had just to go to the gents and right away other guys would approach me and try to chat me up and get my phone number. I'd go back the next day to the same place, alone or with female friends, and I'd get mostly ignored.
Maybe it's just human nature that's both competitive and always in seek of validation. If you are good enough for the alpha dog then you look mighty good to the rest of the pack. I suppose the same goes for the female canines.

She tries to flirt with the man to see if she can get his attention away from his woman and onto her, even if only for a few minutes. I'm not saying all women do this, but a lot of insecure ones do. It's like they need constant approval from men to feel good about themselves. In fact, I have a perfect example for you of a woman like this:Last year, my husband was working a 3rd shift job as a night auditor at a hotel. It was a Saturday night, and there were a bunch of people in the lobby. A woman came up to him to ask him something, but then she started flirting with him. He told her he was married and not interested as politely as he could, but she didn't believe him. He pulled out his cell phone and showed her a picture of him and I. She looked at it and said, "She's pretty, but I'm better than her." Then she told him to take her to the back room and f*** her. He once again told her he was not interested, but she kept bothering him. He finally just outright told her nothing she could say or do would change his mind. She started crying and saying, "Why am I not good enough for you? What's wrong with me? Why don't you want me?" He suspected she was drunk, but you get the idea. She was obviously still an insecure person, and my husband rejecting her truly upset her.These women, who flirt with you, are just like that woman my husband dealt with. Insecure, need attention, and getting it from taken men is even better for them, it temporarily boosts their self confidence. And the more beautiful the woman you take out in public with you, the more women you can expect to try and steal your attention away from her.

 Women enjoy being the prettiest woman around; selfish, but true. To flirt with you while you've brought a woman around, they are attempting to prove to themselves that they are better than the woman you brought. Also, women and men tend to want what they can not have, hence why women follow come to you when you are taken by someone already. When you bring a pretty woman with you, it shows the women around you that you aren't looking/interested, there for, some become attracted.

I think some people need reassurance that they have 'good taste' in the opposite sex, if they see a guy with a pretty girl they may think 'Ok so if she likes him he must be attractive'
