Why do we stare at each other

Hi, i have a male friend who i talk to everyday on msn, however we do not live near each other. we can talk for hours on end whether it is a video call, by phone or just via msn. We use our cam's a lot wen on msn and recently we just stop talking and sit staring at each other. is this natural thing for 'just friends' to do or is it more?
