reader, anonymous, writes (24 November 2010): Yes, pubic hair captures sweat. This is to hold onto pheromones which attract the opposite sex. Our unique scent that identifies us.
Pubic hair around the genitals also acts as a cushion during sex, at least that's the theory. It's main purpose though is to hold our natural oils excreted by our skin.
We have hair all over our body that has many different functions. Eyebrows for example are designed to stop sweat and/or rain from flowing from our forehead into our eyes. eyelashes are there to stop dust and other particles getting into our eyes.
Ear and nose hairs have the same function. Our entire body is covered in miniscule hairs. The ones on our arms and legs are designed to keep in body heat.
Pubic hair also has this property of preventing dirt and foreign bodies from getting at our genitals.
Clothing means a lot of these benefits aren't necessary anymore. But our bodies haven't evolved much to compensate.
Different ethnic groups have difference patterns of pubic hair.
