Why do folks gossip so much?

Heard a couple of women from work gossiping about our Manager and her estranged relationship with her husband. Am not a fan of my manager but these two women did grow in the organization because of her- where is the loyalty?

And why gossip anyway? Never been one for it and just don't understand why people indulge in it.........

aunt honesty agony auntA lot of people live boring lives and when they are at work, they love to gossip and talk about other people. As long as they are not harming anyone or spreading lies well then I guess it is normal enough. Me personally I hate people who are two faced and talk behind people's backs. But the reality is that most people behave like this.

Denizen agony auntI suppose it is of interest to them. There's different kind of gossip of course. One sort is just dissemination of information. This can at times be useful. There is malicious gossip in which reputations can be torn apart. Sometimes though people are just talking about what is going on around them.

Should their loyalty restrict their right to share opinions? Or should they mind their own business and keep their opinions to themselves?

You decide.
