All I can think about is my weight and how I really want to lose just 5 pounds. My friends and family tell me I'm "skinny", but I feel so overweight. I play volleyball and run cross country and track, so I don't want my performance to suffer. However, I keep thinking that I should stop eating and just run. Help!

In our society, as women when we feel badly about ourselves for some reason, we often sense that as feeling fat.
Honestly, I'm a pretty well adjusted person, and when I feel great I can stand in front of the mirror and think what a great figure I have, and another day, maybe when something went badly, I think I am hugely fat. My brain is a logical one - I know I didn't change my weight in that time, so the only think I could have changed is my view of myself.
And that is what you have here. Let's go through it :-
If you're family say you're SKINNY (i.e. they're not saying things like you're fine, or you're just right, or you're not too fat really) then you probably actually are skinny. So, let's start by assuming that you actually are skinny then.
So if you're skinny but you feel fat, then there's something wrong, isn't there? You must be getting it wrong. The only thing which can be wrong is that your brain is telling you you're fat when you're not - mine does this on a bad day, sounds like yours is doing it every day.
So your brain is not working properly and needs to be fixed. So, you probably should go and see someone to help you fix your brain. See how logical this is?
Go to your family doctor and explain what you have told us and your doctor will refer you to a specialist to help you to feel better about yourself so that your brain will start telling you the truth - that you are not fat.
In the meantime, you must use that bit of your brain which does work - the logical bit - the bit which knows there is a problem - the bit which made you write your question.
Your brain knows that even if you don't FEEL hungry, that you need calories to live. Use that brain to make sure you eat enough not to waste away. You must take in sufficient calories, particularly if you are doing sport which burns them up.
I would highly recommend that you write down what you eat and add up the calories, so that you can make sure you are eating enough. You might even want to read a book on Sports Nutrition to help you understand what kind of food your body needs.
Now one of your problems is that you don't feel hungry. Not feeling hungry usually happens when you have some other feeling which is masking your feeling of hunger - some other emotional hunger is the most common - e.g. if you feel empty or otherwise unloved, you are likely to not notice when you are hungry. This is what the doctor can help you to explore - when the feeling of emptiness goes, your hunger will return.
In the meantime, even though you don't feel hungry, you can certainly take in some calories - when people don't feel hungry, they often get thirsty - try drinking things like grape juice, which is high in calories and delicious, and V8, so you get vitamins, and so on.
Please do go to the doctor and get some help. You are too young to work all this out for yourself. You will get better..... :-)

Please do not stop eating. We all need vital nutrients and vitamins for our body to perform on a day to day basis, this will affect your energy levels and you will easily be exhausted therefore your performance will suffer in the long run. What do you weight at present as you don't say? When I was your age I weighed 7 and a half stone. I don't want to scare you but my best friend felt like you and became aneorexic. This is very serious. Please go and talk to your doctor about how you are feeling. Good Luck and let me know how you get on. I hope this info is helpful.
