 It is most likely because when you're on top, you are pressing your clitoris onto his pelvis bone, stimulating yourself. which is causing you to orgasm much faster then when he would be on top. Most women perfer to be on top because of that.

I do not reach orgasm in all positions but the secret is to know how to make the most of it.
Why not invest in more foreplay before penetration or go on top first for a few minutes then go into another position, by the time you try something else you are already "worked up" and may orgasm.
The most important thing is to relax, putting pressure on yourself may be delaying going all the way.
Even if it does not happen overnight, hey you will have fun trying!
