Why do guys say sappy things like"awww" all the time, just wondering?

I was just wondering why some guys say 'awww' to almost everything you say? It happens to me quite often, mainly it is on msn. I wouldn't usually imagine some guys to say it, even some who are not necessarily tough, but would never say extremely sappy things (is sappy a word?) so yeah I was just wondering. thanks!

Well if it's when you say something sweet to them or are complaining about something then, its probably because he doesn't feel like saying too much back. Lol I'll tell my boyfriend he's amazing or something and I'll get an "Aww" and nothing else. So I don't know why guys do it but it does seem normal.

Lol I just said awww in a chat a few mins ago. I just think it's an easy expression word that can be used in chat. It's good for kinda sad feeling, and aww as in that's cute.
