writes: Why do certain guys go after girls when they are already taken? I mean, if they have a girlfriend then why would you want another girl? Sex? Excitement? To fufill their ego? It's just something i've always been curious about, especially when the guys that do it say how much they care about their girlfriends. Is it possible to care about your partner yet still cheat? I'm not just talking about a drunken one night stand or something i mean intentianlly chasing after girls again and again with the purpose of sleeping with them. I've know girl friends of mean who've been cheated on and it just makes me so mad that these guys who do it never seem to learn and just don't appreciate their girlfriend. If you want to go after loads of girls that's fine but make sure you're single! So, what is the underlying reason for acting this way and breaking your girlfriends trust and more importantly, her heart?

reader, anonymous, writes (20 August 2010): For some men it is the way they are raised. The real cheaters are probably like that because it is learned behavior, they probably learned at home. They probably have both chauvinistic mothers and fathers and they always saw the female in a submissive light. The father or the men in the mother's life probably cheated on her, or treated her submissively. The mother probably accepted it. By simply accepting a certain lifestyle you are showing children that that is what is right.
Also cheaters tend to have parents that defend EVERYTHING. They can do no wrong in their parents eyes. So they could cheat on their wives like its their jobs and these types of parents will always project the blame on someone else, usually the wife, "Oh its ok son, she's crazy...or she had it coming..." Its actually really sick.
And these factors generally lead to the pathological cheaters. These men will never change. And like the post below said, as long as there are women who will go along with the cheating, then these men generally have a big enough pool of girls so that their despicable behavior is not challenged.
There are also the "cheaters" who simply screwed up here or there. He was drunk or confused. It does happen. They are not actually pathological cheaters. Sometimes circumstances happen. But even then, cheating is unacceptable. Generally, a man who loves you would never cheat on you.
