Why did this girl ignore me when I tried to ask her out?

Question - (3 June 2010) 1 Answers - (Newest, 3 June 2010)
A male United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

There's a very shy girl in school and she knows I like her and up until a few hours ago I thought she liked me. She had all the textbook signs of a shy girl with a crush on me and she never showed any signs of disinterest. So I thought I'd ask her out at the end of school at her locker when no one else was around (my locker is beside hers).

She knew I was there when she was approaching. Another guy passed by had a brief chat with her so I waited. Then when I tried to talk to her she was suddenley on her phone and said she was busy, strangely the phone didn't vibrate or ring, she said to the "person" on the other side that she would be getting the bus (but she was collected by a car).

So I tried to talk to her again after she was finished but she said "I'm really busy, insert my name" , even though she was only putting books in her locker, (she didn't make eye contact with me once the whole time). She then dropped one of her folders (third time it's happened around me) so I helped her pick it up.

She started making a noise while this was happening as if to avoid talking, she also ended up putting the folder she dropped into someone elses locker before putting it in hers. Then as she was leaving I said bye but she didn't reply.

Why would she do this? Throughout today she was flirting with me more strongly than ever before. I'm extremely confused and slightly angered and humiliated. Should I just give up on her and ignore her completely to show her what it feels like?

A female reader, Accountable United Kingdom +, writes (3 June 2010):

Accountable agony auntShe could just have been having a bad day. Plus if she's shy and slightly insecure she may well have convinced herself that you couldnt like her, so feel embarassed for dropping her books and things and try to rush off...

Basically I wouldn't give up on her. Shy girls often don't know how to deal with the attention from a guy they like, so be patient with her :) if you really like her id say its worth trying again.

Good luck :)
